Now, I’m not much of a baker, and nor have I ever sweetened my hot drinks, so I have only recently discovered the variety of options that are out there when it comes to getting that sugar hit.

I have consumed my fair amount of artificial sweeteners, such as NutraSweet, squirrelled away in cans of my favourite low calorie fizzy drink, but like most people I took very little notice of what was actually making them more palatable.

Diabetes UK has some really helpful information around what options are out there for diabetics with a craving for the sweet stuff.  As you will read in their Web pages, though, it’s complicated when it comes to how healthy both natural and artificial sugars actually are, and how suitable they are for diabetics.

Enjoy… but like most things, perhaps in moderation.
