Poverty and health

Now I know that this is a massive topic to cover in one post, but I thought that I might at least make a start by sharing a few recent reports from key charities.  With a UK general election looming, it might just be worth considering whether the questions raised within them have been addressed or at least acknowledged by our political parties…

The Joseph Rowntree Foundation report highlights the ineffectiveness of Universal Credit in supporting those struggling with poverty and the direct link it has to their health.  Their report also contains details of the letter sent to the Prime Minister last year from various professional bodies and charitable organisations.

For a more focused look at how poverty and inequality impact the diabetic community, then take a look at the report from Diabetes UK.  Their Tackling Inequality Commission Report tries to do just that, highlighting key issues and suggesting ways forward for the UK government and other partners.

As poverty is unlikely to go away, these highlights may very well have to  continue on  my blog and I make no apologies for this…
