It’s a bit of a postcode lottery at the moment with regards to anyone with Type 1 diabetes being able to obtain an artificial pancreas through the NHS, and access seems to be changing at a rapid pace.

Following draft recommendations from NICE in January 2023 which recommended the use of hybrid closed loop systems for people with Type 1 diabetes, interest in these artificial pancreases has grown within both the diabetic community and the media. Under the recommendations the hybrid closed loop system should be available for adults living with Type 1 diabetes who have an HbA1c of 58 or above and have poor hypoglycaemic control. Such systems have also been recommended for children and young adults under 18, along with pregnant women, with Type 1 diabetes.

You will find a really excellent explanation of the hybrid closed loop system on the Diabetes UK website.
